Deposition behavior of residual aluminum in drinking water distribution system: Effect of aluminum speciation

"It was investigated that pure Al13 species exhibited certain anti-hydrolysis stability, because the unique Keggin structure could interfere protons to access the AlO4 kernel (Wang et al., 2011). Consequently, the interchange of structural aluminum with bulk-aluminum and structure rebuilding is rather slow. However, due to the high aggregation property of Al13, it might easily become line or branch formed polymers by decreasing its charge and losing Cl- in the hydration layer."
