Racial Profiling指的是对不同种族有带偏见的总结，例如认为黑人都有暴力犯罪倾向、意大利人都是黑手党、中国人喜欢占便宜偷税漏税、犹太人刻薄吝啬、中东人都是恐怖分子，等等。这些说法在社会上甚至是有一定共识的，但以此为标准针对个人就不对了，例如见到黑人就把他当疑犯对待，见到犹太人就叫他cheap bustard，见到中东人就问他和本拉登有什么关系，这就是racial profiling。
Racial discrimination是指对不同的种族区别对待，也就是不公平对待某些种族。例如在公司里，一个白人和一个中国人在竞争一个晋升机会，中国人各方面的表现都比那个白人要好，但最后却是白人获得了晋升，这就是racial discrimination。
