Puhahou was highly influenced by Samuel Hopkins, whom was the leading American theologian at the end of the 18th and the early part of the 19th century, as well as the Charles Grandeson Finney the great leader of the 2nd great awakening in the early part of the 19th century.
But he’s only at Punahou perhaps a semester or two, in 1883, there was no colleges or universities in the kingdom of Hawaii. So he takes really what is more or less kind of first year of a college, if you will, called Oahu College, as I say, there he’s exposed not just the riggers of the liberal arts, he also exposed to as I say this optimistic faith that American liberal democracy in the values there in, are really the key to a good society. And viewed the American democratic liberalism as being consistent with the values of the Bible and the wishes of Jesus Christ.
