English term

gig

English to Chinese Bus/Financial Finance (general)
I've learned that several former high-ranking AT&T executives who left the firm after disagreements with the current management are working with Kohlberg, Kravis, Roberts & Co., a New York leveraged-buyout house. It's not clear what their KKR gig consists of—KKR declined to comment—but it's hard to imagine that the topic of AT&T never arises.

Denyce Seow Jul 29, 2004:
I don't think "gig" = "jig". In English, this word "gig" is just over-used!! In your context, I cannot really be sure what it means.... :p *sorry*

"Gig" might even mean "team" or "setup". How about ?? Don't know if I use that Chinese term appropriately.

Denyce Seow Jul 28, 2004:
THAT meaning probably came from the 1907 meaning of "business" or "state of affairs', and hence an "undertaking or event".

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "谢谢! it's not clear that what their ( former high- ranking ATnT executives') KKR gig consists of.... 括号内的注释部分终于让我豁然开朗:他们在KKR公司的工作或任务。"

FYI

gig = 鱼叉,排钩
估计这里隐喻"挖人的手段,笼络人的高招"
