Discussion

Fuad Yahya Oct 18, 2004:
I see nothing wrong with using both, but I reiterate my reminder about the definite article. I would also delete the letter U.
Nesrin Oct 18, 2004:
Just a note on the transliteration: should be rendered as "q" not "qu" ("Al-qard al-hassan"), despite the link provided by Moushira. Qu would be pronounced "kw" as in quack.
Non-ProZ.com Oct 18, 2004:
I thik I will use both "Quard Al Hassan Fund"[good loan fund]. whtat do you think?
Fuad Yahya Oct 18, 2004:
I have seen it that way, too. In this instance, my personal preference is to articulate the meaning. If you prefer the phonetic rendition, make sure to include the definite article so that it would not read like "loan of al Hasan."
Non-ProZ.com Oct 18, 2004:
Thanks Fuad, but I have seen it like this also "Quard Al Hassan Fund" what do you think? I am not sure.

The Good Loan Fund

The name of this fund is obviously borrowed from Al-Baqara, verse 245:

من ذا الذي يقرض الله قرضاً حسناً فيضاعفه له أضعافاً كثيرة

It is hoped that the targeted reader of this text will catch the allusion.
Peer comment(s):

agree Nancy Eweiss : I think it's very important to include a clarifying note that 'Quard Hasn' does not ential payment of interest, hence called 'Hasan' and that is what makes it Islamic

Agree with your decision to use both.

In cases like these, with a certain Islamic or Arabic flavour it is always better to include both. You never now whether the target reader will understand the meaning of "Al Qard el Hasan" at the same time "good loan" might not give him the embedded meaning
