Spanish term

carta de residente

Spanish to English Bus/Financial Finance (general) Witness statement

This document is related to factoring operations. These are documents that were required for a payment to be made.

Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

Non-PRO (1): Yvonne Gallagher

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Discussion

Ingeniero Residente That's what we called the person (not necessarily an actual engineer, but perhaps a recently graduated architect) who is on site most of the time during construction.

@lorenab23

Ok, thanks Lorena. Thank you for your response and your vote of confidence. : )
lorenab23 Aug 18, 2015:
@ mpm493 I agree Pat should post the answer suggested. By the way I was not suggesting that "carta" referred to a person, I figured that residente was the word confusing you just like it did the answerers :-)
Yvonne Gallagher Aug 18, 2015:
yes, sorry...thought this was a simple "resident's card" but more likely that Lorena cracked it, and it is short for "residente de obra", so she should post an answer
mpm493 (asker) Aug 18, 2015:
Thank you for the link, Lorena. It is certainly related to residente de obra, but it seems illogical to refer to the person (residente) as a letter or form of confirmation. I have seen this post, but the "carta" part was what drove me to ask the question.

Patinba, you should submit your answer for KudoZ points, as those which have been submitted so far make absolutely no sense in the context of the document.
patinba Aug 18, 2015:
@lorena This makes perfect sense, and should be posted (on-site engineer confirmation?)
lorenab23 Aug 18, 2015:
I believe that in this case residente is just short for residente de obra which is already in the glossary, please see here: http://www.proz.com/kudoz/spanish_to_english/general_convers...

on-site engineer confirmation

Credit to Lorena as she found the link.

This suggestion actually covers two bases, as it can mean either a letter confirming the existence of the engineer, or as a confirmation from the on-site engineer.

residency card; residence card

(Shows that the holder has been given permission to establish a residence at a certain address in the country.)
"Residency" and "residence" are the idiomatic terms I have seen. Canada calls it a residence card, but it is a general purpose residence card, not for a specific address. In the USA there is a Permanent Residency Card, Tarjeta de Residencia Permanente, that resembles the Canadian general purpose card.
