English term

sub allow

English to German Law/Patents Law: Contract(s) Contract of employment
I am working on a translation EN-DE of a contract of employment (employment being caterer on a seagoing vessel).
Under the point "remuneration - working hours" there is a table with one line reading:
"Compensation for 7 days vacation sub allow....................€"
Does anybody have an idea as to what "sub allow"means in this context?
Proposed translations (German)
2 +1 subsistence allowance?

Was there a ... ... "vacation subsistence allowance" - i.e. an amount that people were paid while they were on vacation? If so, if you didn't take the vacation you would also miss out on the allowance and so would have to be compensated for it?
Werner Walther Jun 9, 2011:
Könnte sein ... ... Ausgleichszahlung für nicht genommenen Urlaub.

Sub allow = sub allowance???

subsistence allowance?

sub allow looks to be like "subsistence allowance" - but I'm not clear how that fits with the 7 days vacation.
Peer comment(s):

agree Werner Walther : Looks like - o.k. But again - the rest. My solution does not fit with sub allow, however, it might fit with the rest. So again, we are left alone with huge question marks. PS.: I feel, your reference links make it clear now: YOUR solution is the right one
