In particular I am after "zwingend" in combination with engegenstehen - "conflicts/is in confilict " but I do not know how to correctly translate the word "zwingend" in this context...

More usually, such conflicts are "resolved" or, "beyond resolution", but I can't right now think of a way to work it in. "Zwingend" in many context is just "compelling", but it would not convey an absolute incompatibility. Hope this evokes a better solution!

rewords it a bit, but "dictate" conveys the idea of "zwingend"
